Climate Change

You know things are getting pretty serious when Sir David Attenborough starts putting out content, specifically on the topic of the changing climate and urging global action to be taken. Human activity is the primary cause of climate change, and human activity will be solely responsible for reversing some of the damage we have caused.

I’m pretty confident that by now, we all know what climate change is so I won’t begin outlining all the catastrophic ways in which it affects things (if you’re unsure, I recommend reading up on it here). What I do want to do though is touch on some of the amazing developments that are being made, and as always, explore ways in which we all collaboratively can aid further research, progress and positive change.

With every heavily weighted topic, there is an attached fear and helplessness which we really need to get past. We are not helpless, and if we all get our act together then I reckon everyone would be shocked at how quickly the results we all want to see, would naturally follow.

Renewable energy is expected to surpass fossil fuels within the next three years. Epic. There’s a really great article on that here, obviously fossil fuels are a detrimental contributor to climate change, and whilst it might feel like this isn’t something to get involved with without a degree in engineering or physics there are simple home choices which can be made to opt for renewable energy. Check out this short and sweet article here if you’re looking for inspo on where to start. However, in the absence of being able to make large (often unfortunately costly) home changes (let’s be honest, we all rent) how about starting off by switching lights/electronics off and putting an extra jumper on before you switch the heating on. Consider buying reusable flasks for your coffee take-aways, prioritising public transport or carpooling where possible or even consider swapping your own car to an EV (electric vehicle). It isn’t necessarily the ultimate solution, but it does help with the problem.

Fundraising for charities that plant trees, protect rainforests or support conservation, a lot of these charities are non-profit organisations and really rely on donations and contributions to protect their ongoing work. Stand for Trees is my favourite by far.

Other initiatives could be taken within companies/businesses; organising fundraising events, ensuring the workplace has recycling bins, circulating legislations/petitions and policies which align with renewable energy efforts and scheduling team discussions. Encouraging activism within the workplace and enabling educational conversations will be immensely powerful for the next generation.

I look forward to having enough of a following whereby I can ask for your comments and ideas on things I might have missed, and I’m genuinely excited for the global effort to heat up so we can globally cool things down.
